madeline has moved in with us

My daughters have, I'd say, well-stocked closets (their mom has a kid's clothing line so there's sample overflow).   And then, we do a little shopping circuit: cords and cardigans from Crewcuts, seasonal basics from LL Bean, and the now legendary Missoni for Target dresses. So of course, my 6 year old wears the same thing every day. Sadie started the school year in a Madeline skirt and it's become her trademark. She began wearing it with these adorable clogs with tank tops and, now that the cooler weather is here, she's layering it with leggings and boots (she alternates between these splurge-worthy boots from Shoofly and these, from Payless) - her favorite TV show is Shake it Up. I have to admit, I love her ability to keep the look fresh. And in an unusually compromising spirit, she's agreed to wear the skirt in different colors while her favorite is in the laundry. I do wish she’d wear some of the other things in her closet but for now, I’m going to revel in the style freedom of a six year old, and the ability of a skirt to make a kid feel comfortable.
