Fourth of July Style Statment
Fourth of July is one of my all time favorite holidays. There is a lot to think about: freedom, independence, national pride. We at Pink Chicken like to show our Stars and Stripes in all kinds of ways from the clothes we wear to the desserts we serve. Years ago I bought matching Old navy flag shirts and made everyone in the family wear them. These days we weave our own red, white, and blue spirit into the Pink Chicken line. This Fourth, Pink Chicken covers all the chicks in your brood. Check out our Cory dress in white with red embroidery for women. Coordinate your girls - large and small - in our Edie dress in red, white and blue or our red and white striped Evie or Tara tops paired with a chambray camp short. We even have the Eloise baby bubble for the tiniest of tots. Going to a friends house for a Fourth of July BBQ? Bring along this easy to make but totally impressive flag dessert. All you need are wooden skewers, a container each of raspberries and blueberries and a bag of mini marshmallows. It's a perfect project for the kids and they will be super proud to present the dessert to the party's hostess. Just follow the photo here and use the fruit and marshamallows to make an american flag. It couldn't be simpler. Another great idea is to frost a sheet cake to look like an american flag. Or you can go all out and bake this recipe from Ina Garten that I've had a lot of success with. It's a real crowd pleaser! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/flag-cake-recipe.html Don't forget to spruce up your house for the holiday too. Here's an idea I thought was so cute and easy to do - paint three wide mouth Ball Jars in Stars and Stripes and fill them with whatever pretty white blooms you have on hand. This makes a great centerpiece or would look so sweet on a windowsill. Also checkout shoptomkat.com for amazing 4th of July paper goods. They have everything you need to style the most patriotic Independance Day bash! So while you watch the fireworks dazzle overhead this holiday think about what it means to be a proud American and try and find meaningful ways to show your stars and stripes every day. Have a super festive Fourth of July!
