Pumped up Pumpkins
Lately I’ve noticed this super chic trend of painting pumpkins for Halloween instead of carving them. So for our annual Pink Chicken Halloween staff party we ordered a bunch of paint, metallic paint, glue and glitter and let our design team go for it. The finished product - silver, gold and of course pink pumpkins with glitter stems went straight into our Madison Avenue store window. It was a fun, refreshing and creative new way to have fun with the holiday and spared us the goop factor. Well… mostly. We carved a couple of the pumpkins too. A few traditionalists insisted! I can’t wait to do it again at home with my girls! Follow these easy steps and you will have a glittering Halloween display in no time. 1. Gather your gourds, paint, glue, glitter, paintbrushes and stencils if you plan on using them to make dots or spider webs. 2. Clean each pumpkin so they have a smooth surface. 3. Spray paint each pumpkin with a coat of the color of your choice (we love metallic!). Consider painting the ribs of the pumpkin alternate colors to make a striped effect or stenciling on glitter polka dots. 4. Make sure your paint is dry before you apply glue and glitter to the stems. 5. Let dry and you’re finished! Easy-peasy. Post-Halloween, the autumnal spirit of these pumpkins will keep your porch or mantle lively through the rest of the Fall. We had the best time with this project. I hope you do too!
