Every year, when we do our year-end team discussions here at Pink Chicken, the same dream comes up… a business trip to India. Not only do we draw incredible inspiration from India - the colors, textures and spirit of the country - we do a good portion of our production there. We work with lots of skilled artisans who create the beautiful handiwork, embroidery and block prints that you know as signature Pink Chicken. Their high level creative artistry influences our brand in a big way.
It has long been a dream of mine to be able to send our creative team abroad to meet their counterparts overseas. Part of my responsibility as the leader of the flock is to make sure I am providing opportunity for our amazing team to learn and to grow in their careers. But… As I’m sure you can imagine owning your own business is at times hard and stressful and also rewarding and totally AMAZING. There are difficult decisions to be made all the time and so the trip to India kept getting put on the back burner.
But 2018 was such an incredible year and we were finally able to make it happen! We literally all shed a few tears of joy when I told them about the trip. A true milestone for all of us, this trip embodies our hard work as a team and our shared passion for what we do and who we do it for . . . YOU!!!
Meeting Ilika and Sunita, our Pink Chicken partners on the ground in India, face to face in their offices allowed our team to bring the creative process full circle. The experience of seeing our fabrics being printed in the mills, meeting the people sewing the clothes and the opportunity to travel around the incredible markets to find new inspiration will allow our team to continue to deliver designer that are a little vintage, a little bohemian and VERY Pink Chicken!
