1. Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Leesburg, Virginia. Now my family and I live in Raleigh, North Carolina
2. How long have you been painting?
Art has been at the forefront of my entire life. I feel as though there isn't a time I can remember when I wasn't making art. I began painting seriously in college and launched my first website selling my work while I was a sophomore. I graduated and moved to NYC and began the business of painting for a living in my early 20s.
3. How did you know you wanted to be an artist?
It is so fundamentally a part of who I am. I never considered being anything else, it is the most natural and joyful thing for me.
4. How would you describe your personal style and how does this affect your work?
My taste in interiors is layered, collected, more traditional than modern. My taste in clothing is classic, feminine (and usually covered in at least a little paint). My art has been described as whimsical and playful with an attention to both free-floating movement and details. I've never considered how this all intersects before - what a good question.
5. Describe your most memorable moment as an artist so far?
The answer to this has changed so many times. Right now, my favorite moment was the first day I moved into my new studio in downtown Raleigh this past year after many years of working from home through raising my little ones. It was a summer day, my first day in seven years with an art studio not attached to my home all to myself to be free and creative in. The sun was coming through the curtains, the music was flowing and I was painting seashells and cherries - as. my. job.
6. What has been your biggest struggle as an artist so far?
I struggle with juggling it all - I love raising my children and want to give them as much of my time as I can, I also love painting and want to constantly make new art. I also am so energized by how beautifully my art business is growing and flourishing, but running a business is also deeply time consuming. So far, no matter how I slice it, there are only 24 hours in a day. Help!
7. How did your collaboration with PC come about?
I was delighted to be invited to cohost the opening of the Pink Chicken Raleigh store. Stacey and I met at the opening party and got to chatting. I admire the Pink Chicken brand so much and was so honored to get the opportunity to work with you all!
8. How do you feel about seeing your prints on clothing?
It is delightful and such a pinch me moment! And to see the clothing on my little ones - I'm so proud!
9. Any sneak peeks or hints on any upcoming works?
You know, your guess is as good as mine. I went to work this morning with a long list of things to work on and somehow all I painted all day was jellyfish! Inspiration has a way of leading the charge.
